A Few Words from Our President – January 2019

January 2019

Dear Skålleagues,

Happy New Year!

I hope you’ve all had an enjoyable and relaxing Festive Season and imagine that with School Holidays still underway, many of you are still soaking up the sunshine and sea air that comes with the stunning summers we put on here in the West!

With the start of the new year, comes the time for renewing your Skål Memberships and you will recently have received a message reminding you of this and providing a link that allows you to renew quickly and easily via TryBooking and automatically generating a Tax Invoice that may be used for your expenses or for tax purposes.  I encourage you all to action your renewals as soon as possible so that monies can be forwarded to Skål Australia and Skål International in Spain prior to the cut-off date in February.

January 2019 Club Function

Please note that due to the challenges of reaching minimum numbers for our January functions in the past, we’ve elected to skip a function in January this year and will kick-off our 2019 events with our AGM function in February instead.

 February AGM – Note Evening Function on Thursday, 7th February

Our February AGM function will be a cocktail function (held from 6:30 – 8:30pm) at the beautifully restored heritage building of EF Language School (Director, Brad Vernon is one of our fabulous members) located at 20 Queen Street in Perth (Parking tower is directly opposite the building).  Hoping this different format will encourage members and guests to attend after the working day for a look at this stunning new space (and a great addition in attracting visiting students to Perth), our Annual General Meeting and some fabulous networking with drinks and canapes included.  Keep an eye out for your invitation in your inbox in the 2nd week of January!

March Skål Australia AGM & National Assembly at QT Gold Coast – 22 – 24 March.  You’re Encouraged to Attend!

Our next National AGM and Assembly is happening in March on the Gold Coast and all members are encouraged to participate.  Perhaps you have a business trip to the East Coast at around this time and could tie in a fun weekend getting to know some of our amazing Skålleagues from all around the country (& even some of our NZ cousins!)  For further information, click on the link below for details of the arrangements, functions and accommodation options on the weekend;

Skål World Congress – Seven day cruise in the Caribbean out of Miami 14 – 21 September 2019                                                                                                                  Last year was Kenya, this year it’s Miami and the Caribbean!  The 2019 Skål World Congress will be held on the largest and most innovative cruise ship ever conceived, Royal Caribbean’s Symphony of the Seas. This ship entered service in 2018 and will amaze  guests with world class entertainment, 7 neighborhoods, 20 restaurants and a variety of shopping.  The Congress will provide great opportunities for building business relationships and friendships with ample opportunity to share ideas and business practices with fellow Skålleagues in both formal and informal business sessions.  Take a sneak peak at the Symphony of the Seas here;  https://binged.it/2AsXZ8I   and for further information, visit the Skål World Congress website at https://www.skalworldcongress2019.com/

Skål International Perth’s Travel & Tourism Industry Christmas Celebration – Charity Results

What a fabulous time we all had at our Christmas function last month…it was exciting to welcome our four newest members, Don Hancey, John Hughan, Rachel Finney and Tim Bolton to the club and also to do our bit for our chosen charity this year, Foodbank WA.  As reported on the day, $10 of every ticket sold to attend the event was donated, along with the full proceeds of the charity Auction (thank you to Auctioneer, George Booth and Auction winner, Erin Hickey) of the 3 night Astor Cruise and cash collected in the Hungry Puffs box at the event, resulting in a total donation of $1677.00 from this event.  Those who attended were inspired and motivated by the Foodbank representative’s (Andrew Wilkinson) short presentation educating us on their operations here in WA and just how far funds raised go… in fact our donation has paid for 3,354 meals!  There are a ton of photos and some video from this event on our Facebook page so if you haven’t had a look yet, drop by to Skål International Perth 250 and take a look (also “like” the page while you’re there to be kept up to date on all that’s happening) and for those on Instagram, follow our Insta account of the same name to see all things Skål International Perth.

For now, enjoy the beautiful Summer weather we’re having, don’t forget to renew your membership and keep an eye out for your February AGM function invitation next week!

Yours in Skål,

Ali Banks
